The Real Reason I Exercise

Simply put – I am not the “athletic” type. My favorite hobby is sleep not tennis. Don’t get me wrong – I do enjoy being active but sports and exercise is not “my thing.”

So, if I do not enjoy exercise as one of my hobbies or passions then why do I do it and make it a priority in my life?

Honestly – I do it because I want to be able to say YES!

1) To say yes to my KIDS

Today Brother Bear fell and scraped his knee when were on our way to the car after school. (PS – I did too earlier that afternoon ). After giving a good dose of empathy I was able to offer a piggyback ride. I kneeled down to the ground and had him hop on. Then I stood up (without any assistance) with 50 pounds on my back and carried him to the car. A year ago, there was no chance I could have carried him in any way let alone lifting him on my back from the ground in a way that made him laugh the most contagious laugh in the whole world. When we reached the car, the lady in the car next to ours rolled down her window and told me that was amazing to watch and super sweet.
That was my yes!

2) To say YES to my HUSBAND

I have an amazing husband who all too often got the tired, cranky, stressed out wife. Since working out I am significantly less stressed and irritable. It is amazing what that alone can do for a friendship and marriage!

3) To say YES to MYSELF

Eating healthy does amazing things for mental clarity and is super important for weight loss, but for me it is the combination with exercise that really works. When I exercise, I am happier, less stressed and more rational. There is also something about putting the hard work in and seeing and feeling the difference.  Being a fit mom helps me to be a better version of me!  A few months ago, the back of my thigh was itchy – so I scratched my leg. I was shocked to discover it was rock solid muscle! {I may or may not have ran around asking people to touch my thighs for a few weeks!}

4) To say YES to my HOME

Exercise gives me more energy. I used to {and sometimes still do} tell myself I do not have time to exercise. Here is the reality – taking the time to exercise SAVES me time. Stay with me for a minute! I was exhausted all of the time prior to exercising several times per week. It took forever to fold laundry, do dishes or come up with motivation to get off the couch to start cleaning the house.

Now, I have more energy, get chores completed and work on other projects around the house in a fraction of the time! I feel better and have more time for my home and family. WIN-WIN!

If you are like me and not the “athletic” type but want to start saying YES – email me at tricia @ twoworkingparents dot com {remove spaces}. I would love to help you!
